This past week I mowed my lawn for the first time and came across a number of areas affected by snow mold.

These spots are dark brown, lifeless areas that need to be looked at more closely.

With this winter’s tremendously cold temperatures, these spots are still popping up, especially in the Midwestern States.  Identifying these spots is pretty easy, the next step is to get the area ready for spring growth.

The remedy is pretty simple: Source:  Snow Mold – About.Com

  1. Most of the area will grow back over time
  2. Lightly rake the area
  3. Apply additional seed and treat area like a bare spot
  4. Avoid fungicide use, not necessary and could be costly because of the wide-spread areas.
