Looking for some nitrogen to add to your soil this summer. Have you ever thought about coffee grounds. Yes coffee grounds.  I came across this article in which a sample of Starbucks Coffee Grounds were sent to a soil laboratory for analysis.  I thought the findings were quite interesting.

The nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium “guaranteed analyses” would be as follows for the coffee grounds:

  • Nitrogen: 2.28 percent
  • Phosphorus: 0.06 percent
  • Potassium: 0.6 percent
  • pH: 6.2

These figures would show that some value could be added to the soil if the coffee grounds were mixed with a section of soil. The article looks at other test results related to coffee grounds.  It is something to think about as we all try to incorporate some “green initiatives” into our lives.
