soybeans pharmaceuticals, soybeans wastewaterI came across this article,  Crops Absorb Pharmaceuticals from Treated Sewage by Rachel A Zurer  and it quickly grabbed my attention.

“Soybeans can accumulate drugs and personal care products commonly found in wastewater and solid waste.”

A study conducted by Environmental Scientist Chexi Wu, University of Toledo found  the pharmaceutical compounds of  triclosan and triclocarban accumulated in the beans themselves.

More research is needed in this area. It could be  hot topic. Farmers often fertilize their crop with treated sewage. More attention, may be needed to know the makeup of the sewage.

What are your thoughts on this topic? Should there be concern?
