This topic always seems to come to light. A former smelting plant is the root cause for the higher than normal levels in a neighborhood in Lincoln, Nebraska. The story, “Tests unearth lead issues in North Bottoms” was reported on June 12, 2013 in the Lincoln Journal Star. The story makes a good point that further investigation is needed with respect to former smelting plants operating in the past.

The particular neighborhood that is affected by this issue resides right next door to University of Nebraska – Memorial Stadium. If you live near a former manufacturing plant it is always a good idea to have your soil tested for your own health. This is especially true if you have young children who play outside. Also, if you are planning on planting a garden, it is also a good idea to have the soil tested to be sure the soil is not contaminated with lead.
