Each week I see more and more studies related to mycotoxins in foods. This article, “What Does it Mean When Your Coffee has Mycotoxins” suggests mycotoxins can be found in coffee.
In addition, the FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) is bringing this issue up as a preventive control for food and feed manufacturers to look for and analyze.
At Midwest Laboratories, we have worked on this area of analysis and have been able to setup a process on our LC-MS/MS instruments to record detection levels specific to the various types of mycotoxins: (Aflatoxin,Vomitoxin, T-2 Toxin, Zearalenone, Fumonisin & Ochratoxin at a package cost of $260.00 ) or individually at a cost of $75.00 per sample.
This area is a growing area and food/feed producers will need to make sure they are prepared when it comes to providing these items in their final products and as a part of their production process.
